Our Company
History
Tennant Varipack has been through a number of incarnations to become the modern manufacturer of high quality stationary products that you know today. The company was originally founded in 1955 by William Cockhill, as Redland Quilting, and was a successful supplier of PVC products to the furniture industry.
In 1980, the company diversified into the stationary market, producing ring binders and media packs. This was followed a few years later by a change of location and name as Redland Quilting became Redland PVC Products and moved from Bristol to its current location in Nottingham. The company changed hands in 1988 when William Cockhill retired, and sold the business to its current owner, Richard Tennant.
Expansion and investment made another name change necessary, and in 1996 Redland PVC Products became Tennant PVC, a division of the Tennant Group Ltd. Most recently in 2005, Tennant PVC merged with Varipack Ltd to become Tennant Varipack Ltd, which further strengthend the company’s position as a leading manufacturer of PVC stationary products.
Products
Ring binders are no longer made just in PVC but also in Polypropylene, PU leather and Paper over board. Design and personalisation of products has progressed from screen printing to include litho and digital printing as well as embossing and de-bossing.
Tennant Varipack has many years experience in design, materials and manufacturing processes and now makes a wide range of bespoke presentation products. Our experience with these materials is second to none, and we are expertly placed to help you design a product that will serve your needs perfectly.
We produce our own tooling, meaning that we can produce exactly what you need, not a near match from a catalogue of pre-prepared products, and we can do this quickly and cost effectively, with a minimum of fuss.
Quality and Service
Our experienced and dedicated service team are available to help you develop the right product for your requirements with pre-production samples if necessary to ensure it meets the specification. Stringent processes are in place to ensure quality products are produced during manufacture.
Environmental Policy
Tennant Varipack is an environmentally responsible company, and is committed to using resources as efficiently as possible and to keep environmental impact to a minimum. We work with BEST (Business Environmental Solutions and Training) and the Environmental Technology centre at the University of Nottingham to make sure our production uses resources efficiently and is as environmentally friendly as possible. Most of our products are made from recyclable materials and we urge all of our clients to recycle products once they reach the end of their useful life. Any waste materials or off cuts created in the production process are recycled.

Tennant Group Ltd - Environmental Policy
Tennant Group is based at The Midway, Nottingham. It consists of three divisions – Tennant Varipack, which manufactures stationery products, Tennant Safety which distributes workwear, safety footwear and safety clothing and Tennant Rubber, which fabricates and distributes industrial rubber goods.
At Tennant Group, our senior management initiates and gives full support to our environmental policy. As a responsible company we intend to grow and develop in a sustainable manner, however, we recognise that our operations have an impact on the environment and we are committed to reducing these.
We are committed to continually improve our environmental performance and we are developing an environmental management system (EMS) to achieve this in a structured way. The company will provide the human and financial resources required to implement this EMS.
We are developing environmental performance indicators to help us to assess our current and future level of environmental performance. This will also enable us to benchmark our performance against similar companies and industry standards.
The EMS covers all the operations at our site in the East Midlands.
It is our Policy to:
- - Integrate environmental management into our day-to-day business operations to ensure environmental issues are addressed, whilst providing a quality product to all our customers.
- - Comply with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations and requirements.
- - Reduce our use of natural resources such as energy and fuel in line with our objectives and targets
- - Reuse resources whenever possible rather than dispose of them.
- - Encourage the use of recycled materials and recycling initiatives.
- - Provide appropriate environmental training for all our people and encourage them to support this programme.
- - Promote communication with internal and external interested parties and respond appropriately to reasonable requests for information about our environmental performance.
- - Ensure that all our people and the general public can access our policy.
The policy will be reviewed annually and the conclusions used when reviewing and setting targets for environmental improvement.
In 2008 we are aiming to reduce our energy use based on 2007 figures and pro rata growth
