How much will the product cost?
Most of the products are manufactured to a customer’s specification so the cost varies due to the material, print, accessories chosen and quantity. Our sales staff will be happy to discuss a customer’s requirements and provide a quotation.
What is the difference between a ‘D’ and ‘O’ ring?
An ‘O’ ring is the original pull apart ring mechanism and fits to the spine of a ring binder. A ‘D’ ring mechanism, developed from the ‘O’ ring, fits to the back cover of the binder and provides a straight line finish edge to the pages. The capacity of an ‘O’ ring is 80% of its stated size whereas the ‘D’ ring is 100% of its stated size. Please see our technical information section for full details.
What is the difference between de-boss and emboss?
Emboss stands out from the surface and de-boss is sunk into the surface. See the technical section for more details on suitable materials.
Are spine size and ring size the same?
No. The quoted size of the binder is the ring size and not the spine size. The spine size will always be greater as it has to accommodate the ring mechanism.
How do I know what ring size to choose to match a specified number of pages?
It depends on the weight of pages being used. We can only provide a guide but to be completely accurate you must refer to your paper supplier.
How is ring capacity calculated?
The capacity varies depending on the shape of the ring. Paper capacity is 80% of the size of an ‘O’ ring mechanism and 100% to the size of the ‘D’ ring and ‘Arch’ mechanism. See the technical section for more details
What is pantone colour?
Pantone colour refers to the standard language for accurate color communication, from designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer, across a variety of industries. It is the definitive international reference for selecting, specifying, matching and controlling ink colours.
Will the colour be exact to the pantone reference chart?
Not always as certain materials and finishes make an exact match impossible. The sales staff will give you information on when problems are likely to occur.
Do you use a standard size tool for an A4 binder?
Yes, unless the client requests specific dimensional sizes. Standard tooling sizes can be found in the technical section.
How is the size of printed insert calculated for an encapsulated binder?
Encapsulation sizes are the same as the reinforced board sizes. For standard binder sizes these can be found in the technical section. For non standard sizes please contact the sales department.
Do standard binder sizes allow for inclusion of tabbed dividers?
Yes, all standard tooling sizes will take 13mm tabbed dividers.
Can any ink be used to print polypropylene?
Polypropylene can be distorted by close contact with certain litho inks and varnishes - particularly those with a high mineral oil distillate. As well as using the correct inks (vegetable/soya based inks are recommended) it is suggested that any litho printed paper or card to be used in close contact with polypropylene, is sealed by film lamination.
How long will the production take?
Quoted delivery lead times are based upon how busy we are at the time. These are held firm for orders received within 48 hours of our quotation. We will confirm revised dates for orders received after this period.
In what format should I send you the artwork for the binders?
All artwork should be of actual size and supplied wherever possible as an EPS file with type converted to paths. This should, if possible, also be accompanied with a PDF file.
